Hi! I’m Ellie.

I’m a Dorset-based social media manager working with businesses across the UK. I started Square One because I believe businesses that are genuinely brilliant deserve to look it online. I ask a lot of questions, laugh a lot on shoot days, and care about your business almost as much as you do.

our origin story

Square One didn't start with a grand business plan. It started in a coffee shop.

While studying for a degree in Fashion Design, I spent my weekends working in a local café to help fund my degree. Somewhere between sewing machines, deadlines and flat whites, I found myself fascinated by the content days happening around me. The café would bring in photographers, videographers, social media managers and I remember thinking: "I reckon I could teach myself that."

So I did.

I swapped my design placement for a media internship, bought a camera off eBay that was older than I was, and started learning everything I could. What began as curiosity quickly became an obsession.

Years later, that same coffee shop is still one of my longest-standing clients. Not because I take pretty photos, although I do try my best, but because I genuinely care about understanding the businesses I work with.

My approach starts long before the camera comes out.

1. We start with your business

Before we touch a content plan, camera or caption, we get to know your business properly. We’ll ask about your goals, your customers, what makes people choose you, what’s working, what’s not, and what you actually want your social media to do.
Because good content starts with understanding.
2. We build the plan
Once we know what matters, we create a strategy around it. This includes your content pillars, key messages, upcoming launches, seasonal focuses and what needs to be communicated that month.
No guessing. No random posting. Just a clear direction.
3. We plan the shoot
Every content day is planned before we arrive. We know what we’re capturing, why we’re capturing it, and where it will be used.
This means shoot days feel relaxed, but everything still has a purpose.
4. We capture the content
On shoot day, we create a bank of photography, short-form video, reels and behind-the-scenes content designed around your business goals.
We’ll direct where needed, spot natural moments as they happen, and make sure the content feels like you.
5. We turn it into content that works
After the shoot, we edit, organise and shape everything into posts, reels, stories and captions. Every piece of content is created with your audience, tone of voice and goals in mind.
6. We schedule and manage it
Once content is ready, we schedule and post across your agreed platforms, keeping everything consistent, aligned and on track.

Since Starting Square One…

What began with one camera, a lot of curiosity and a coffee shop client has grown into a full-service social media and content creation agency working with businesses across the UK.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with award-winning bakeries, multi-site hospitality groups, cafés, wellness brands, garden centres and founder-led businesses, helping them communicate what makes them special through strategy, content creation and social media management.

Today, Square One specialises in hospitality, lifestyle and wellness brands - industries where customer experience, atmosphere and personality matter just as much as the product itself. From content production and photography to reels, strategy and ongoing management, my focus has always been on helping businesses show up online in a way that feels authentic, intentional and true to who they are.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the relationships we’ve built along the way. Many of our clients have been with us for years, and what starts as a content shoot often evolves into becoming a trusted extension of their team.

A few things you should probably know about me.

I’ll almost always have a coffee in hand. I’m a firm believer that personality beats perfection every time. I get slightly too excited about a well-planned content calendar. I ask a lot of questions because I genuinely find businesses fascinating. I will absolutely leave a meeting with ten more ideas than I arrived with.

And yes, I have been invited to a client’s wedding. More than once.
